Grade 2 US M1939 Wool Greatcoat

This is a Grade 2 listing, all products listed here will have defects including but not limited to missing buttons and features, tears or holes. We do not accept returns on Grade 2 items for condition.

The wool greatcoat is a timeless piece of military and civilian wear. These are vintage WWII-issue, used by the US Army.

Constructed of a very heavy 32 ounce Melton wool, they make for perfect winter coats. One of wool's greatest natural properties is its ability to retain warmth even when wet, which is precisely what this greatcoat was designed to accomplish.

This model of greatcoat was adopted in 1939 by the US Army. Its design features a double breasted front with eight large buttons, made either of brass or plastic depending upon its date of manufacture. This change was made sometime between 1942 and 1943, with some manufacturers adopting it later than others. Its lapels are of a classic notched style, typical of US Army jackets of the period.

There are two front pockets on these overcoats. They also feature a split rear to enable a wider range of movement. There is also an adjustable wool waist belt located on the rear of the coat.
